Meet Makwa! This confident, sassy puppy is full of personality and always ready for her next adventure. Curious by nature, Makwa loves exploring the world around her and approaches life with enthusiasm. She's currently in the fun (and busy!) teething stage, so she's always looking for something to chew - whether it's a toy or anything else she can find. Makwa enjoys running, is learning to play fetch, and is already impressing her foster family with her ability to catch treats in mid-air. While she wasn't much of a cuddler at first, she's grown more comfortable with affection and now enjoys seeking out attention from her people. Like many puppies, she's highly food motivated and is always excited to earn a tasty reward.
Makwa is friendly and social with people and enjoys meeting new faces. She greeted the neighbours in a playful, friendly manner and has shown herself to be a confident, outgoing puppy. Given her young age, she would likely adapt well to a home with cats, dogs, and children. She currently lives in a moderately busy suburban neighbourhood and takes everyday sounds in stride, making her a great candidate for life in a busier environment as well. She is crate trained and sleeps peacefully through the night. She's making great progress with her potty training, already using pee pads consistently and even letting her foster know when she needs to head outside. She's also learning important puppy skills like sit and stay and is beginning to work on shake. Makwa loves being close to her people and will often follow them from room to room before settling nearby to keep them in sight.
Like any young puppy, Makwa is still learning about the world and will benefit from continued guidance and training. On walks, she's very curious and enjoys exploring, though she'll happily investigate grass, dirt, pinecones, and just about anything else she finds along the way. She can become very excited when she sees other dogs and may bark or pull on leash because she wants to go say hello, so continued positive training will help her learn calm greetings and that she can't meet every dog she sees. She also has a prey drive toward small animals and may try to chase them if given the chance. Makwa is a vocal puppy who isn't shy about letting you know when she's hungry, needs to go outside, or wants attention, though she settles nicely after a few minutes when left in her crate. She is also learning to feel comfortable spending time alone and continues to make steady progress. Makwa has shown resource guarding around her food bowl, so her adoptive family should be prepared to continue managing and working on this behaviour. With consistency, structure, and lots of opportunities to learn, Makwa is sure to grow into a wonderful companion full of love, personality, and adventure.
